Who runs QRPine

Joel Simard

I'm Joel Simard, a senior full-stack developer and tech lead. I build and run QRPine as a sole proprietorship based in Canada.

Why it exists

I'm tired of online tools that cost little to run, charge a lot, and are a pain to use. QR generators are a clear case: forwarding a scan costs a fraction of a cent per thousand scans, yet the big names charge a monthly fee for a capped number of codes, and many switch them off once they are printed and the subscription lapses.

QRPine is what I wanted instead: well-made software at a fair price, built to be fast and easy to use. Free codes have no redirect to switch off, and dynamic codes keep opening the last link you set if you stop paying.

Why the name

A pine stays green all year. A QRPine code is meant to do the same: print it once and it keeps working.

How it runs

Free codes are drawn on your device. The link you paste is never sent to us. Dynamic codes redirect through Cloudflare's global network, and payments go through Stripe.

If QRPine closes

I have no plans to, and the commitment is in the terms: every account holder gets at least 90 days’ notice by email, with a list of their codes and the links they point to, and live codes keep forwarding to their last link for at least 12 months after that email. Free codes are not affected: scans never pass through QRPine.
